I got a call from my parents after their appointment with the surgeon at MD
Anderson. The surgeon is the chief of liver surgery there and he believes
that this surgery can be done. It will be a lengthy and invasive surgery.
My parents are coming home tomorrow afternoon from Houston and will wait to
hear back about scheduling the surgery. The surgeons will meet next
Wednesday to work out scheduling and my parents hope to hear more then.
They've been given an approximate date of the beginning of the year unless a
cancellation occurs. Once they return to MD Anderson dad will have a 7-10
day recovery period from surgery at the hospital and then they are to stay
in the Houston area another 7-10 days following that. Further testing will
be done before the surgery to rule out the chances that it originated
elsewhere. The surgeon seemed very optimistic and so are my parents and
family.
