Wanted to give yal an update, since we haven't let you know much lately. =
Bro. David has been home for several weeks now. At first, that was a =
little disappointing to him. Even though he was anxious to be with the =
family again, he felt that was a sign that the VA Rehab had given up on =
him.

He had a plate and pen put in this leg some time ago. Last month, they =
saw some calcium starting to form, but not enough to let him try to bear =
weight on it. They will re-examine the leg in mid/late August to see if =
it is making any progress.

Yesterday when I went by to visit, his nurse (who comes one day a week =
to stay with him and let Margie get things done outside the home), said =
he had been "showing out" today.

I asked him to let me know what he had done. The nurse, Margie, and =
Bro. D said that he pulled himself up into a sitting position in the bed =
(which is a hospital type bed). A therapist was there and he decided he =
wanted to try to sit up on the side of the bed. Since they were there =
to help, in case he needed it, they let him. He moved his legs around =
and had them hanging off the side of the bed, just like you or I would =
sit on the side of a bed, but without putting any weight on the =
feet/leg. He asked Margie to move his wheelchair nearer. With the =
transfer board and lowering the bed, he was able to make the move into =
the chair without using the sling/lift that they normally had to use.

This was very exciting. He seems of late to have a new fervor for =
wanting to be able to push himself harder and be more independent. You =
can hear the exitement in his voice as he finds he can do something that =
he hadn't been able to do before.

He also said that he has been able to move the eye, that was damaged in =
the accident and has been crossed since, a little to the right. That =
was a new accomplishment for him, too.

The VA feels that being home has given him new incentive, and generally =
made him a happier person. That causes him to try harder, etc.

Please continue to pray for him especially in the coming weeks as he has =
3 appointments with the VA in Little Rock in August. One for the =
dentist, one with his eye, and the one to check his leg again. Each =
time that the leg has not been ready to try to bear weight, it has been =
a difficult time for him.

Thank you for caring, please keep praying, and I know he would like to =
hear from you. If you would like to e him, just send it to this address =
and we will forward it on to him.
